Creative Ideas To Try When You Lose Your Mojo

Updated: Mar 6, 2023

It Happened; You're Stuck! Now What?

In a creative slump? Can’t figure out what to make? I’ve been there more times than I care to admit! We all go through it. One minute you’re a creating genius! Everything that your hands touch is a masterpiece! And then BOOM! All of a sudden your creativity comes to a screeching halt! You find yourself just staring at your beads (or whatever you use) and wonder how the heck to get from point A to point B again. Well, before you flip your bead board in frustration, let me help you out by giving you a few ideas to get your mojo back.

Look at what’s right in front of you!

Do you have any creations that you recently finished? Take a look at those and create a complementary piece. Make a nice set of earrings to go with the necklace, or a bracelet. If you would rather recreate a piece that you enjoyed making, try doing that with different colors, or a different accent. Sometimes, getting back to the familiar can help get your creativity back on track again.

Take a trip to your favorite craft store.

One of my favorite pastimes is taking a trip to my favorite craft store and walking the aisles because I love being around other crafty people and I always get some sort of inspiration while I’m there. I usually think of a completely different project in a random part of the store, which can lead to it’s own issues (if you have a habit of collecting projects). But, one of the awesome things about the craft store is that there are numerous magazines on the shelves with different craft ideas. Scan through a magazine and see if anything catches your eye. It may sound elementary, but use it as a template and try to recreate it. You don’t have to recreate it exactly, use your own twist, but it should get the creative juices flowing again. And who knows, you may find designs that you had never even thought of before!

Window shop!

This one can get a little dangerous. I tend to forget that I’m only supposed to be looking and not buying. Lol. Hopefully you have stronger willpower than me! Go to your favorite boutique and take a look at the jewelry section, or if you want to look from your comfy couch, hop on your favorite social media site. You can peruse any fashion magazine or label on every social media platform and they are bound to have countless ideas for inspiration. Sometimes just seeing a different color scheme will give you some new ideas.

Hopefully these little tips help get you out of your creative slump. What are some of your tricks to get your creativity flowing? I’d love to hear about it!
